7-13-08 The Gators began with the following post on www.okball.com
We are organizing a brand new 8U Girls Machine Pitch Team. The team will be called the Mustang Gators and will be based in the Mustang/West metro area. We will play Fall and Spring Leagues at Wildhorse Park in Mustang.
We are focusing on 2001 birthdates, and are planning on the nucleus of this team playing together for two years at this level. The team begins with the younger players from the Lightning team, who could have played T-ball this year, but played up. They have had a year of machine pitch, but can still play two more.
The two initial coaches have extensive baseball experience on the little league, high school, junior college, Division I college, and professional levels. We are very interested in other coaches joining us as well.
We have very strong sponsorship behind us. We are currently building our own hitting facility, which will be a 6-station collegiate level hitting facility designed by Tim Walton, Head Softball Coach at the University of Florida. Our lighted practice facility is being built by Monte McCoy, Head Groundskeeper at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
We completely understand that we are talking about 7 year old girls, and we will absolutely not overdo it. Everything will be designed for the girls to have fun, and practice and games will be limited. We anticipate a larger amount of initial preparation time, but once the season is underway, we will play league games one night a week, practice one other day per week, and maybe a tournament a month. However, as the girls grow and progress, we are certainly willing to put in more time and effort, as dictated by the girls.
If you would like more information about your daughter playing, or if you are interested in joining our coaching staff, please feel free to call Gary McCoy @ 405-550-4154 or visit our website at www.mustanggators.com
